PTH Biography
The Part Time Heroes are two undisclosed young musicians currently residing in the leafy suburbs of Southampton. Although their names are not known to the masses, their music soon will be, as this part-time shop assistant and part-time sandwich deliveryman, plan to convert their part-time music careers into full-time employment.
Both heroes have a deep history in a variety of genres, sharing influences from Miles Davis to Bob Marley to The Clash, and both now share the same landlord. For various reasons the duo found themselves sharing a flat together at the turn of 2005 and after many late night conversations, lengthy musical debates and story-telling sessions, the duo that had now become good friends decided it was only right to combine their two studios. The short move from each other's respected bedrooms to the 'the lounge' took place and a new production partnership was born. It was quick, natural and 'felt right' and the next ten months have taken them to the brink of breaking through.
Having drawn comparisons to Portishead, St.Germain, Groove Armada and Zero 7 there is no question that the Heroes debut album (in progress) is an exciting, eclectic and fresh journey over different tempos, incorporating live instrumentation, deep jazz roots, folk music and organic soul nourishing goodness.
April 2005 saw the duo invite a selection of close friends/local accomplished musicians to their front room to bring that 'live' touch to their recordings. Live drums, flute, keys, double bass and horn section were thrown into the mix and over the coming months vocalists including new-comers Jono McCleery (Music Weeks best unsigned act of 2005), Lucy Kitchen and Laura Vane, who would drop by to indulge in late night song writing sessions and recording.
Having held their music down, working away juggling day job's, they've manage to contribute music to an recent MTV advert plus remixing the likes of MJ Cole, Yungun, Mosaic, Instrumental (Big Chill Recordings), N'Dambi, Monday Michiru, Fania All-stars (V2 Records) and Citizen Cope (Sony/BMG) to name a few.
May 2006 saw the Heroes team up with legendary Wah Wah 45 Records to release their first official single under the moniker 'PTH Projects'. This consisted of the tracks 'Pretend Paradise' featuring the vocals of double award winning 'BBC Jazz Artist of The Year 2005' Liane Carroll, and B-side 'Thin Air' featuring the incredible soulful vocals of Laura Vane who is currently touring doing backing vocals for Gnarls Barkley. This release was such a success; it sold out in two weeks demanding a re-press!
Continuing to build on their success and fan-base, they have DJ'd across the UK and Europe over recent months and performed with their full live band on the main stage at the 'Big Chill Festival' 2006, plus at London's Cargo venue. Their debut 'Realise' EP is released on Mums The Word Records on 30th October 2006. Get ready…
So things are looking up for our part-time shop boy and sandwich deliveryman. If the hype's anything to go by – then maybe their days of BLT's and cheese and tomato rolls could be numbered. All I know is after hearing their music and meeting them in person… these Heroes 'won't stop till their work is done'.
